5/10/13 Report - Calusa Shell Artifacts & Shipwreck Spikes

Two Shipwreck Spikes Found on Treaure Coast Beach.
First, the spikes. The one on top is complete, but has not been completely cleaned. Some of the surface material has been removed, but this spike has already deteriorated and the iron is in poor condition. I don't know how well it can be cleaned. I

Brass or Bronze Artifact Metal Detector Find
Here is a brass, or roughly cast bronze, artifact found by James F. up around the St. Johns River. He thinks it might be a cleat and ring off a early steamboat. The area is also where Seminole War battles were fought.

9/16/11 Report - Bronze Atocha Seal Find, Florida Bison, More on McKee

6/13/11 Report - Cleaned Iron Artifact & Great Pirate Site
Chisel As Found in January.This chisel is ten inches long and the head is 2 inches by 1.5 inches. I like it better with the crust, but it started to deteriorate so I decided to clean and preserve it to keep it from falling apart.I should have immediately put it in a solution of water and sodium bicarbonate and let it soak until I got around to cleaning it.Don't take the crust off until you decide

5/14/11 Report - Late Hopewell Copper Point & Beads
Truly Significant Find by Larry Persina.I was recently up north where I talked to Larry who brought this find to show me. It is a rare and important find that has been studied by archaeologists from both the Carnegie Museum and the Smithsonian. It is a copper point or knife with copper beads.
