I hope you'll forgive my attempt at humor today. Here is a five hundred year old Homer Simpson.
Seriously though, is there reason to believe they didn't do cartoons? Surely they had a sense of

14K Ring
I mentioned the other day that the number of surfers and other beach goers recently should provide some new finds on the beaches. That has proven true. Here is one example.
There is a large variety of things to be found now. I've seen everything from Native American pot shards, to black

8/19/12 Report - Atocha Emerald Ring, More Anchors, and Storm to Watch
Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.
Photo Received Via Email From Mel Fisher Organization.
Here is another view of the recent Atocha emerald ring find. I like to study examples like this so I can more easily identify finds.
One feature on this ring that I haven't seen before is the raised point of gold at the corners of the stone.

Older Shallow Water Gold Find
Here is a photo of a recent ring find. It is 10K, but what I want to show is the break and the condition of the find. It looks like it was lost a while before being recovered. You'll find a good number of broken rings, especially if you are finding items that have been

7/7/12 Report - Found Ring, How to Determine Age of Cut Stones, & Old Maps
Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.
Photo Submitted by Bill M.
I sometimes receive questions about finds that people make. People often need help in identifying their finds and want to know how old an item is. Sometimes I can help with that if it is something I know a little about - maybe it is a type of item that I have personally

6/22/12 Report - Thousand-Year-Old Find, Returned Ring and Conditions
Here is something I found on a beach. It is about an inch and a half, measuring left to right.
Do you know what it is? It's not a mushroom. I didn't know what it is, but one of my expert readers did.
I'll post what he said below.

Gold and Pearl Ring Beach Metal Detector Find.
This thin gold band got bent. I've shown quarters and dimes that were bent at ninety degree angles before. Items are exposed to a lot of force when buried under a lot of sand and rock under the front beach.
I received an email from Philip I., the

Beach Metal Detector Find.
Nice heavy 18k gold with Tiger's Eye gem.
I think it is Tiger's Eye anyhow, but am not sure.
Here is a web site that gives the "meaning' of various gem stones if you are interested.

It appears that a pin was once attached to

3/2/12 - Owner of Found Ring Wanted & Don't Lose Anything Old Even If You Are
1946 Class Ring. This ring is the typical style for a class ring from the forties. People lose things. That's obvious. I'd be surprised if you haven't lost something of sentimental value. Most people do at one time or another. And it can be heart-breaking. It is especially nice to celebrate with people when the lost is found.Someone lost this class ring. It was found along a wooded path in West

Beach Find.
The gold ring shown above appears to have some interesting symbols on it. At the base of the heart inside the intersection of the two circles is a cross. If anyone recognizes the design, I'd like to hear from you.
Wouldn't it be nice to take a good look inside all of the

12/10/11 Rain, Gold Ring & Gold Monkey Head
Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.
It has been raining on the Treasure Coast this morning. Heavily since the early hours around Fort Pierce. Not as much Vero and north.
Rain will actually calm the seas a little if there isn't a lot of wind to offset the effect.
I'll always remember the eerie calm one time when I was shallow water

9/18/11 Report - Half Reale, Gold Prices & Another Super Bowl Ring Found
Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.Half Reale Find. Scott made this find and submitted the photo. He had previously found some copper sheathing and square nails. Those types of artifacts can be what I sometimes call "signal finds." They are not usually primary targets but can be important because they can be a signal, or indicator, that there

7/12/11 Report - Two Crude Silver Finds and the Issue of Depth
Two Crude Unmarked Silver Beach Finds. Both test as silver, and both are unmarked. The cross has the Latin word for Peace, PAX, on the front of it even though I don't think you can see that in the photo. It appears that it once had a loop on it that broke off.I don't know what the symbol on the ring is. I'm always happy to hear your thoughts on unidentified beach finds like this. Google Books

3/31/11 Report - Olive Jar Info & Links
Photo This Morning. This morning it looked like a few crates were loaded from the platform boat to the smaller boat and at least two people boarded the platform from the small boat. Those crates moved to the barge the other day looked heavy.A few days ago I showed a picture of an olive jar that was recently brought up from the Atocha. That reminded me of the guy that found what he thinks might

3/25 Report - Pedro Menendez & Emerald Ring
Emerald & Gold From a Treasure Beach.Yesterday was one of those days. I didn't know what I wanted to talk about and it seemed that everything I tried to do didn't work. The camera memory was full, then the battery needed recharged, and on and on. Finally I gave up and decided that I'd just wait until another day for my next post. Usually I just sit down, know what I want to talk about and do it.

Some Class Ring Metal Detector Finds.Everybody wants to know the easy way to find a lot of gold with their metal detector. That isn't surprising, is it? 12/28 Report - Seal Ring and Griding
Seal Ring Found with Metal Detector.I'm still hoping someone might have some ideas about the seal.As I mentioned some time last week, someone asked me what is the proper way to work a beach. There isn't any one right way, but there are a lot of strategies and methods that apply to different situations. The dry back beach that has not been affected by moving water for a long time is one situation.

12/6 Report - Acid Testing & Beach Combing
Two Plain Silver Rings Found on Treasure Coast Shipwreck Beaches. These are the type of thing that are very difficult to identify - not much of a design to go by and no markings. The only thing to suggest that they might be from a shipwreck is the location where they were found. There are metallurgical procedures that can help tell where the metal in the object came from, but other than that, it is
