Every holiday season, our team comes together to create a custom handcrafted gift to honor our friends and partners who continue to inspire us and drive us forward into the new year. This year, we created a series of hand-poured candles and a gourmet blend of hot cocoa to bring in the New Year.

Our candles were hand-poured, in-house, using an all natural black soy wax infused with a blend of cedarwood, patchouli, black pepper, and pimento berry essential oils. We poured each candle inside a frosted glass with a custom matte black foil print. Then placed each candle inside a telescoping two-piece box, wrapped in a classic black linen with white foil print.

Our gourmet hot cocoa blend, was packaged inside of a custom matte black tin with white foil print, alongside a custom BASIC mug, and a nib of Godiva Liquor, to keep cozy through the holiday season.

Each care package contained a black-on-black holiday card with a black gloss foil, duplexed with handwritten script on the front and a personalized greeting on the back.

The formation of USG Boral brought together an enormous portfolio of products for the construction industry, both commercial and consumer.

This called for a global pack design with the flexibility to work across a vast array of products and multiple languages.

Our approach was based on the concept of ‘smart pragmatism’. The design was kept as simple as possible, to ensure every product is clearly identifiable by colour and name alone. Often in environments such as poorly lit warehouses and hardware stores. We developed the system in Korean, Mandarin and English typography to ensure product names would work in any language. A vivid palette of colours was created to bring vibrancy to a traditionally industrial category.

Client: OPPO
Location: Moscow, Russia
Packaging Contents: Dishwasher tabs
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper
Printing Process: Offset Printing

OPPO is an innovative Russian product, which has all chances to become a serious rival for global brands on the shelf. Before it appeared on the market there were almost no local affordable analogues. However, an economic crisis and international sanctions opened this perspective niche for Russian producer.

OPPO is a real ecological ambassador, it contains no phosphates, SAS, chlorine, fragrances or coloring agents used by many home care goods manufacturers. Developed in cooperation with German technologists and ecologists, the original OPPO formula guarantees the highest level of safety and environmental protection.

The name of the brand, offered by the client, is an acronym for two benefits - OPtimal safety and POsitive result. Brand platform, logo, packaging design, corporate icons and visual communications are designed by BrandLab agency.

The atmosphere of natural purity and dishwashing excellence are reflected in brand`s design, full of air, light and confident calmness. The central subject of saucers and a cup is related to the logo, which reminds a dishwasher power button and the original circular shape of tab.

The gem of the brand is OPPO`s special series for gentle washing of kid’s dishes, which got the original «baby» pattern.

Location: Menomonie, Wisconsin

This brand is also bilingual, including Arabic and English. The poster is screen printed and designed around the scent. Thirty Incense Sticks come in a pack.

The design was heavily influenced by Arabic architecture and artwork. The calligraphic intricacy of the Arab world is absolutely stunning, and incorporating that in the design was very important.

The colors were directly influenced by the many tombs of Pharaohs recovered in the ruins of ancient Egypt. The glimmering gold complimented with a royal blue resonated the perfect empirical taste of a pharaoh.

Words of Welcome

Creative Agency: DDB Berlin & MediaMonks Amsterdam
Project Type: Project for a good cause
Client: Berliner Stadtmission
Location: Germany
Packaging Contents: Basic Daily Needs
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Box Tape
Printing Process: Flexography

Situation
Germany has welcomed over one million refugees displaced by the conflict in Syria. Asylum seekers face new challenges in Germany: the majority of Syrian refugees cannot understand the German or English and are unable to read the Roman alphabet. This language barrier makes communication between asylum seekers and caregivers extremely difficult. The German government states that integration and basic communication are essential in providing meaningful support.

Idea
Words of Welcome is a design concept that turns every aid donation into a German language lesson. Together with language experts, we developed a phonetic system that combines German language and the Arabic script. We created phonetic transcriptions for the names of the most essential items and created a new label for these products. By reading these labels aloud in Arabic, refugees can instantly pronounce the word in perfect German. With every relabeled product refugees add a new German word to their vocabulary.

Solution
To achieve our goal of helping to bridge the communication gap we had to keep costs and logistics to a minimum while ensuring that our impact was substantial. The idea needed to help Syrians learn the German language but also needed to be easily implemented by volunteers in crowded and often chaotic camps. We focused on the first 28 words every refugee should learn in German; the names of the essential items they need every day. We then created a design system to help learn these words and applied them directly to the items as a replacement label. With every aid product they received they were able to learn the word and subsequently ask for this item in fluent German.

In collaboration with multiple refugee shelters, we selected the most essential products that serve the basic needs of the refugees. Next, we developed a phonetic system together with language experts to create phonetic transcriptions for the names of these items. To support as many people as possible, we created these transcriptions in three languages: Arabic, Farsi and Urdu.

By printing the transcriptions on a simple roll of box tape we made it easy for volunteers and refugees to repackage the donations on site. The tape uses 7 different colours representing different product categories – helping to differentiate food, sanitary, medical and baby products. The Words of Welcome platform caters for the first 28 words every refugee needs to learn so they can communicate their basic needs: Sanitary towels, Toothpaste, Plasters ( Band Aids ), Batteries, Water….

An online platform enables people to help spread the word to other citizens, brands and corporations to attract new sponsors.

Project Type: Concept
Location: Rostov-on-Don, Russia
Packaging Contents: Metallic primer
Packaging Materials: Metal, paper

The packaging for the metal primer containing particles of iron. This solution is applied on various surfaces to provide them with magnetic properties.

The design of the label has been inspired by the styling of the album cover of a band playing heavy metal music. The visual game is based on the tune in the names of musical genre and solution for application to walls. The legend of the brand reveals the concept of the product: "Each string craves to the depths of its steel core for rough guitar riffs, unrelenting drive, and crowds of enthusiastic fans. However, those metal threads, which have experienced tension on the legendary electric guitars, are the heroes of the scene and, being exhausted of the frantic pace, crave for something completely different. They imagine their last chord as the apocalyptic heat of a melting furnace, decomposing them into atoms to give another life in the metal primer Magnetic Star. The coating has a strong craving for creativity." Heavy metal is still alive!
