Tweetin For Paper Mugs

Designer: InDezign
Project Type: Prototype
Location: Moelschow, Germany
Packaging Contents: Birdseed
Packaging Substrate / Materials: re-usage of existing paper mugs
Printing Process: No additional printing needed

Every year millions of paper mugs/cups are produced for one single occasion - just to drink beverages (e.g. coffee, coke). Empty paper mugs produce a tremendous amount of trash since they are coated by plastic and can't be re-used.

The idea of this project was to find a way how we can re-use these empty mugs in a sustainable way and "upgrade" our own trash.

My idea is changing these paper mugs into bird feeder - a wonderful and meaningful experience for children and adults.

There's only a slight change in the shape of the existing lids necessary and the mugs and lids could be used as a bird feeder right after they've been used for beverages.

Think of kids learning in schools about birds while the kids fix a TweeTin near the window or think of people living in the city using TweeTin for a tiny bird feeder on their balcony.

T-shirt Eco-Packaging

Designer: Shao-Hua Hsu
Project Type: Student Project
School: HTW Berlin
Course: Short-term Project, Packaging Design
Tutor: Birgit Severin
Location: Germany
Packaging Contents: T-Shirts
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Palm leaves

T-shirt Eco-Packaging is a 100% bio and eco-friendly packaging made of palm leaves. During this 5 days project I had the opportunity to develop my packaging idea in collaboration with Berlin-based company Leef.

What's Unique?
The palm leaves I used to create the packaging are handpicked leaves from Areca palm tree, which is commonly grown in Asia. Once carefully washed and dried, the palm leaves are stable and solid enough to make into the form I wanted. The final design has the shape of an unsealed cylinder and is 100% ecological as well as compostable. The curving form from the top creates an opening of the packaging and the circle on the body makes the layout and color of the T-shirt visible. In addition, the packaging is very light and handy.

Bärchen Vegetarian

Creative Agency: B+P Creality
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Reinert
Location: Berlin, Germany
Packaging Contents: Tofu-nuggets & tofu-schnitzel
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Carton, plastic

The private butcher Reinert together with B+P Creality helps flexitarians to raise their children healthy. Reinert produces delicious vegetarian replacement products for children and B+P Creality creates the packaging, which helps flexitarian parents to recognize these products on the market shelves.

This year the most famous Reinert product line “Bärchen” (Engl. “little bear”) was expanded into the field of the vegetarian cuisine. Among other products Reinert brought new tofu-schnitzel and nuggets to the German market. The main goal thereby was the integration of new products into the existing “Bärchen” product line. But not less important was their positioning as vegetarian and healthy dishes for the whole family. With these tasks Reinert came to the branding and packaging agency B+P Creality.

During the market research campaign B+P Creality found that the new Reinert products suit the requirements of one particular group most of all. This special target group were flexitarians. In comparison with vegetarians, who deny meat completely, flexitarians only limit themselves in eating meat products. For this purpose, they need so-called “replacement products” that look and taste like meat, but consist of other ingredients. The “replacement products” topic is especially relevant for children’s food. Here two reciprocal interests meet, namely, the wish of the child for a delicious meal and the wish of the parents for healthy food for their children. Reinert’s vegetarian schnitzel and nuggets are perfect to fulfil both wishes. Therefore, Reinert needed a special packaging that could help the products reach the desirable target group.

B+P Creality created for Reinert a packaging system consisting of a tray and a sleeve. The green tray is covered with foil, where the half is printed with a picture of the sky. The other half of the foil is transparent, so that customers can see the product through the window in the sleeve. The carton sleeve forms a bear figure in the foreground and is refined with gloss varnish. The sleeve, made from the natural material, presents the products as natural, healthy and vegetarian. The inner side of the sleeve is printed with a colouring picture. So the sleeve is not just a part of packaging, but also a nice gift for the children of the customers.

Dirk Rose, Director Design Strategy at B+P Creality dazu: „The special feature of the new packaging for Reinert is the tray that is the same for both “Bärchen” products. This was a cost problem, which we needed to solve with our packaging. Although nine nuggets and two schnitzels need a different amount of space, B+P Creality has succeeded in finding a perfect tray size and shape, so that both products fit equally well”.

Words of Welcome

Creative Agency: DDB Berlin & MediaMonks Amsterdam
Project Type: Project for a good cause
Client: Berliner Stadtmission
Location: Germany
Packaging Contents: Basic Daily Needs
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Box Tape
Printing Process: Flexography

Situation
Germany has welcomed over one million refugees displaced by the conflict in Syria. Asylum seekers face new challenges in Germany: the majority of Syrian refugees cannot understand the German or English and are unable to read the Roman alphabet. This language barrier makes communication between asylum seekers and caregivers extremely difficult. The German government states that integration and basic communication are essential in providing meaningful support.

Idea
Words of Welcome is a design concept that turns every aid donation into a German language lesson. Together with language experts, we developed a phonetic system that combines German language and the Arabic script. We created phonetic transcriptions for the names of the most essential items and created a new label for these products. By reading these labels aloud in Arabic, refugees can instantly pronounce the word in perfect German. With every relabeled product refugees add a new German word to their vocabulary.

Solution
To achieve our goal of helping to bridge the communication gap we had to keep costs and logistics to a minimum while ensuring that our impact was substantial. The idea needed to help Syrians learn the German language but also needed to be easily implemented by volunteers in crowded and often chaotic camps. We focused on the first 28 words every refugee should learn in German; the names of the essential items they need every day. We then created a design system to help learn these words and applied them directly to the items as a replacement label. With every aid product they received they were able to learn the word and subsequently ask for this item in fluent German.

In collaboration with multiple refugee shelters, we selected the most essential products that serve the basic needs of the refugees. Next, we developed a phonetic system together with language experts to create phonetic transcriptions for the names of these items. To support as many people as possible, we created these transcriptions in three languages: Arabic, Farsi and Urdu.

By printing the transcriptions on a simple roll of box tape we made it easy for volunteers and refugees to repackage the donations on site. The tape uses 7 different colours representing different product categories – helping to differentiate food, sanitary, medical and baby products. The Words of Welcome platform caters for the first 28 words every refugee needs to learn so they can communicate their basic needs: Sanitary towels, Toothpaste, Plasters ( Band Aids ), Batteries, Water….

An online platform enables people to help spread the word to other citizens, brands and corporations to attract new sponsors.

Rustipani Topped Baguette

Creative Agency: B+P Creality
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Wagner Nestle
Location: Berlin, Germany
Packaging Contents: Baguette
Packaging Materials: Paper, carton

Rustipani. The successful topped baguette redesigned

Last year the new product range Rustipani of the Nestlé brand Wagner made its triumphal entrance to the German frozen food market. The innovative product and packaging concept developed by B+P Creality was very well accepted by customers.

Now the time for change has come and B+P Creality has recently redesigned the Rustipani packaging. The topics "baking", "backtradition" and "naturalness" that always played a major role in this project, have now received a special expression. Away from the perfectionism trap: natural products never look perfect. Here and there you can find a bit of flour on the wooden table and the baking paper can be seen through the package window. In addition, the broken bread reveals the consistency of the dough, as the recipe of the especially tasty dough is exactly what distinguishes Wagner from its direct competitors.

Location: Germany
Packaging Contents: T-Bone Tea. Beef bouillon in teabags
Packaging Materials: Wood, glass, stainless steel

Drink a steak.

Holy Cow! The German online meat shop Gourmetfleisch.de and Jung von Matt/Neckar created beef bouillon in teabags.

The tea does not only say good-bye to the same old boring ingredients like ordinary green leaves – it also revamps the traditional looking tea box packaging design.

To put the bags into the right environment, we turned our tea boxes into a miniature butcher shop complete with tiny meat hooks. The meat hooks not only pay homage to the butcher shop atmosphere but they are also a handy little device for hanging your teabags into the pot.

Style and colors, of course, had to match with the overall dark vintage brand feeling, while still portraying a premium and clean look. A whole new product now comes with a whole new taste and aesthetic. Bon appetite!

Carlsberg Germany Can

Creative Agency: Kontrapunkt
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Carlsberg Germany
Location: Copenhagen, Germany
Packaging Contents: Beer
Packaging Materials: Aluminium

With more and more brands on the shelves and increased competition from new regional breweries, German consumers found it increasingly hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Or, maybe more accurately, the hop from the chaff.

Presented with this challenge, Kontrapunkt and Carlsberg Germany looked to give the can a new refreshed facing by distilling the purity and quality of the product in a minimalistic and refined expression.

The design evolution balanced out the descriptive elements and emphasised the hop leaf as a principal icon in a new temporary design.

The design is a manifestation of the brewery’s ambition to continuously improve the Carlsberg experience. With a custom hop leaf pull tap, matte colours and distinct clean look, the can represents the beer’s uniqueness and communicates the brand’s pioneering craft beer heritage.

Feeling thirsty? The Carlsberg can is already on the shelves in Germany with other markets looking to roll it out as well.
