Hungericum Taste Hungary! (Student Project)

Designer: Katona Barbara
Project Type: Student Project
School: Eszterházy Károly University
Course: Graphic design
Tutor: Dr. Süli-Zakar Szabolcs
Location: Eger, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Traditional Hungarian food
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper
Printing Process: Digital printing

The word „Hungericum” is composed of two words: “Hunger” (referring that it contains food) & “Hungaricum” (as a traditional Hungarian value)

The first feature was that I wanted to acquaint traditional Hungarian brands with foreign people. The Hungarian foods can be real specialties to the foreigners: they can experience a whole new world of flavors. There’s a dozen of web pages where you can get packages from other countires, but for a certain amount of money. In Hungary it’s not a popular matter, so my mind came to that it would be a good idea to make a new brand. Next to the Hungarian there is also an English product information, so it’s exportable. The whole identity amalgamates the typical Hungarian motives and colors with a modern execution.

The package itself looks like a present. You don’t have to buy the products one by one, if you want to gift your relatives or friends some Hungarian snacks. The packing offers you the Hungaricums on a „platter”, forming an aesthetic appearance. All of the products are wrapped individually. A tiny sticker indicates what it contains. I attached a booklet to the package, where you can find the product infromations: so the foreigners can orintate about the products itself, too.

Dúzsi Merlot Rozé (Concept)

Designer: Szilvia Tongori
Project Type: Concept
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Wine packaging
Packaging Materials: Paper

This wine comes from Hungary, Szekszárd wine region. Szekszárd (with historical old name, Szegzárd), means "closed in ANGLES of rivers and mountains" in Hungarian. If we would like to measure angles, we need a protractor. So the label is a working protractor. The label is a pin icon in its shape also, and it contains the GPS coordinates of the terroir, where the wine was produced. We see a stylized landscpae detail in the corner of the pin icon, this is closed in angles literally, according to the meaning of Szekszárd.

The measure units of the protractor is degree, and the measure unit of the GPS is the same: we can use them to find a place: this label brings us to the exact producing place.

This work was in the finalists, amongst the best 9 in the Cégér design competition.

Bock Winery - Albus Wine (Concept)

Designer: Szilvia Tongori
Project Type: Concept
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Wine packaging
Packaging Materials: Paper

This label was designed for Bock Winery's Albus wine. Bock means Capricorn, Albus means white. "Bock"(Capricorn) brings us to the notable constellations. "Albus", as white (as clarity), connects the light here. The label is punched by little holes, in the shape of Capricornus constellation. Holes allow through the light, so the stars shine with natural clarity.

This label was amongst the 9 winner of the first round of the Cégér wine label design competition.

BerryBon - The vitamin bonbon

Designer: Diana Ghyczy
Founders: Áth-Horváth Zsóka and Magyar Kata
Brand strategy: Kun Judit and Szántó Gábor
Photos: Kovács Kati
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Le Bon Choise
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Chocolate bonbon
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper
Printing Process: offset printing, Golden foil

My clients asked me to design a logo and packaging for an amazing product. BerryBon is a healthy and delicious bonbon, not only because it was made from the best quality raw materials. This is their own recipe: every bonbon contains enough vitamin D to almost cover the daily needs of an adult.

Kun Judit and Szántó Gábor created the brand strategy: they wanted to communicate differently, than an average chocolate brand does. The brand essence is the unexpectedness, because it's not a simple dessert: unexpected taste (because of the lightly sour red fruit filling), the qualities (bonbon with vitamin? wow!) and the communication as well. So the slogan became: Unexpect everything!

My task was to design a logo for the 'Berrybon - The vitamin Bonbon' brand name. Than a packaging which has a little trick and mirrors the slogan.

Wallet Nail Scissors

Designed, modelled & rendered by Annabella Hevesi
Consultant: Nagy Alexandra
Project Type: Concept
Packaging Content: Nail scissors
Location: Budapest, Hungary

I bought my nail scissors in a one-euro market. I fell in love with its sharp edges and uniformed thickness, so i based my concept on it when i had to design a package for scissors at school. I decided to highlight its beautiful design, therefore my solution is a "long-term" package that is a simple metal or plastic sheet. It has the same thickness as that of the scissors, and the same size as that of a credit card. By this, you can safely bring it everywhere in your wallet.

Schieber Winery - TABU / TABOO

Creative Agency: CREATUM
Designer: Tamas Csility
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Schieber Winery
Location: Baja, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Materials: Paper

TABU in hungarian means TABOO

Basic concept of the label: TABOO is present in our daily lives, an integral part of our lives, but we do not talk about these, will not be publicly displayed even tight circle of friends either. TABU: object or creature or concept to mention the ban on touch; integrity, holiness.

This wine is Schieber Winery's secret, hidden items, which can only be seen in the exceptional, may touch and taste. This item is the winery's flagship wine, which offers by some Michelin star restaurants in Hungary.

I designed a label for this name and ideology that shows this hidden secret. Everybody knows taboos, everybody has taboos, but we don't necessarily want them to see clearly. But some taboos may honor to see, to touch, to taste... prerogative like this wine.

Honey from Hungary

Creative Agency: Royal Rocket
Graphic Designers: Ferenc Hetsch, Abigél Albu
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Honey from Hungary
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Honey

There are only a few products of the food industry that entitles Hungary to be on the toplist of any international market. Honey is one of them. The most high-toned gourmand-shop in London, the Italian supermarket-chain and most recently, the Dubaian market is equally interested in high-quality Hungarian honey products.

Honey From Hungary Ltd. has contacted us at the beginning of 2016 with the assignment of creating a youthful package design for their 16 different honey products to stands out on both the local and the international market. This design was on our shortlist for a long time, but as only one could have been sent to production, it remained on project level. However, we consider it worthy of nomination.

What does the product have to offer?

“Made by bees”
Our task was to create a stylish, unique and youthful image based on complex brand building. With this honey packaging, we wanted to revive an age-long tradition in the spirit of the present. We aimed to shuffle an energetic, youthful world into the market of honeys by using extra colours.

Hajnal Palinka

Creative Agency: Graphasel Design Studio
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Harmatrázó Pálinkafőzde
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Alcohol
Packaging Materials: Glass

HAJNAL is Hungarian dawn – sunrise, the way home after a crazy night, the moment when today meets tomorrow, the ones who are finally going to bed meet the early birds on the street. The rooster‘s crowing is an early morning sound-pattern of Hungarian landscapes, the voice that brings the Sun up. We chose him as a symbol for traditional Hungarian fruit brandy Harmatrázó Pálinka, whose name means ‘dew-drop shaker’. The colors of the five kinds of pálinka (grape, raspberry, apple, peach and apricot) return as the colors of the Sun, meanwhile the shape of the Sun is the subject of an optical illusion shown by the transparent liquid’s distortion effect.

Herbária

Designer: Eszti Varga
Photographer Márton Visontai
Project Type: Student graduation project
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Herbal tinctures
Packaging Materials: Glass and paper

This project is my graduation project at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, which is the identity and packaging design of Herbária.

Herbária was established in 1949 to collect, produce, process and trade medicinal plants and to manufacture herbal teas. The head office in Budapest controls the production in the factories, coordinates the sales in Hungary and export - import activity. The experience of more than five decades, gathered in the field of herb collection and processing makes the name Herbária strongly connected to the idea of excellent quality medicinal plants in Hungary. My special idea was adding new type of products beside teas.

Beside the identity I created a label design for a pack of tinctures made of herbs with three different flavours, these are mint, anise and sage. The liquids are transparent, because they contain herbal tincture but also alcohol and water. The labels are created with a technique that I really prefer, so I applied ‘brush calligraphy’ which means I drew these unique scripts with a calligraphy brush-pen. The calligraphy were put on the glasses by pad printing. The glasses have card tags on their necks with all the information about the product.

Felfelé Red Wine Label (Concept)

Designer: Ferenc Deak
Project Type: Concept
Location: Budapest, Hungary
Packaging Contents: Red wine
Packaging Materials: Paper

The choice of the name refers to highland conditions.
- Where are you going to?
- Up to the Highland, up and up.

Applying the typography I extended the separator after the "up” word. Apparently I made it sat down. Thus the charachter "É” is used as a separator as well. This is how the name of the wine has been formed: FELFELÉ. Its red color refers to the content of the glass. Furthermore I used the sights the foreigner like the most. Behind the Typography you can recognize the connection between the wine and the highland. I used the map of field in the wire frame construction.
