Moo Yogurt

Creative Agency: mousegraphics
Illustrator: Ryn Frank
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Location: Athens, Greece
Packaging Contents: Yogurt

The briefing:
"We launch a new type of cow-milk based yogurt and we would like a strong identity and related packaging for the whole range of our dairy products."

The target consumer:
Consumers of all ages and backgrounds within the Brazilian market.

The design:
Our client asked to be differentiated within a highly competitive industry and gave us a name which acted as a springboard of inspiration for us. "MOO" logo was designed after a biomorphic principle that makes it quite memorable as it playfully recalls a plump, productive cow form or the soft and creamy yogurt body. The three letters comprising the logo-typed name serve as a generous surface-base of creative alternatives so that flavors and mixes are easily marked and distinguished in blue, green, orange, ochre and pink spots. The fine lines of the additional illustration (fat and thin cows, honey jars, plants and fruits) cooperate in creative antithesis. The lid of the containers are color-coded with just one defining spot in the middle as a reminder of the key letter "o".

Packaging Contents: Powdered tea
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Durapulp

Creative direction intends to fuse the allure of cigar aficionados and high-end lifestyle with a comfortable use of quality powdered tea.

The central waved shaping of the packaging revealing the green tea tubes in the cut-outs is inspired by the shape and form of tea plantation farms. The sculpted part is devised of a combination of polymer and paper pulp material called Durapulp.

Durapulp is a bio-composite material that consists of completely renewable and bio-degradable components. Its environmental credentials are undeniable, but Durapulp boasts several other unique features as well. It’s incredibly strong, holding its own in some very tough conditions. And because Durapulp is also water repellent, its end products can be wiped clean and withstand water splashes.

Cereal Planet (Student Project)

Designer: Mihyun Sim
Project Type: Student Project
School: Konkuk university
Location: Seoul, Korea

This package design project started as a branding idea of‘'Cereal Planet' - a cereal cafe where you can get all kinds of cereals from all over the world. The main concept was to sell cereals in one-meal size package to make it easier to try many flavours without difficulty- which was later used as a design module. While searching for cereal cafe references I found an image of a counter with cereals stacked behind it. I wanted to use this idea in a way that could accentuate the concept of the brand. Using partition and composition, when the hexagon shaped boxes are stacked together, it reveals the hidden shape of stars so that the whole wall the boxes are stacked at could be seen as a cosmos with black stars shining.

Sha Li Wen Moon Cakes

Designer: Charlie Leong

Sa Li Wen (沙利文) is heritage brand of Hunan founded in 1947 by a Shanghainese.

Charlie designed Sa Li Wen to follow the retro style of the Republic and not to follow the current design trends with the hope to restore the brand. To do this, Charlie turned down all the long-term design work in order to be able to fully foscued on the project. He is adamant on not wanting this heritage brand to go on a decline.

Li Yongquan once quote: "a country without a brand more than 200 years of culture is a disaster."

Charlie Leong, designer of the packaging says: "I know that in more than 200 years of history, there are six heritage brands in Taiwan, only five in mainland China and there are more than 3,000 in Japan. It is a disaster for the China culture, I create brands and the biggest desire of mine is to save the old brand, that is my biggest wish."

Carlsberg Export Redesign

Creative Agency: Taxi Studio
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Packaging Contents: Beer
Location: UK

Since 2010, we’ve worked closely with Carlsberg fostering a great relationship most recently in our radical redesign of Carlsberg Export.

Despite the famous brew ranking better than competitors in blind taste-tests, Carlsberg Export’s brand perception was affecting its commercial performance. Despite boasting a remarkably rich brand history originating in Denmark – the country, which remains home to Carlsberg – their premium beer was struggling to stand for anything in consumers’ minds.

We were brought-in to dramatically re-imagine the Brand, elevate its premium beer status and champion its Danish origins – all of which we hoped would ultimately drive reappraisal and retrial with consumers.

Working closely and collaboratively with the team at Carlsberg UK, we embarked on a radical redesign inspired by Danish Design; famous for perfectly balancing function and form.

In order to stay true to our new Danish-centric positioning, for our design system we turned to Denmark’s national flag, known as the Dannebrog, to set the standard for Carlsberg Export. This bold, simple design provides a powerful, economic and aesthetically pleasing system that visually grounds the Brand in its Nordic roots.

Spencer Buck, Creative Partner & Founder @ Taxi Studio expands on our work: “Balance is something the Danes do brilliantly and it’s something that, together with the great team at Carlsberg UK, we’ve worked hard to capture in our redesign – by blending premium beer cues with Danish design aesthetic and marrying the warm with the cool, we hope this brave new direction for Carlsberg Export does Denmark proud.”

Darren Morris, Brand Portfolio Director for Carlsberg UK said:
“Throughout this year-long process we’ve taken a collaborative and consumer-centric approach. From identifying our differentiating Danish provenance to working alongside brilliant partners like Taxi Studio to bring our Danish heritage to the fore, we’ve had the consumer with us the whole way. We’re incredibly excited to share a piece of Denmark with the wider community”

Thinky (Student Project)

Designer: Jisu Hwang
Project Type: Student Project
School: Hongik University
Course: DESIGN STUDIO (4)
Tutor: Hyunkyoung Park
Location: Seoul, Korea
Packaging Contents: Children instructional tool
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper
Printing Process: Digital printing, Silk screen printing

‘Thinky’ is a brand of educational toys to develop children’s thinking ability. Unlike existing compulsory programs, Thinky helps to develop thinking ability naturally through games and plays. In this program, children encounter various types of problems, and they find out solutions through interesting activity themselves. In this process, children’s brain will be constantly stimulated, and thinking ability will be developed naturally and effectively.

In developing the brand, package, and promotional tools of these properties, I took the idea of ‘thinking’, which is the core of children’s education, as a motif. This motif has been expanded and branded 'Thinky' in the sense of 'imaginative and thoughtful child'. In addition, in order to take advantage of the characteristics of this product, I came out with BI and package design that can be visually appealing to children. This will increase the interest of children in learning and also will improve their learning more effectively. Furthermore, I have developed various characters for such purpose, for children to interact naturally with the characters.

Photographers: Policas & Luís Ferraz
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Oitava Colina
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Packaging Contents: Beer
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass, waterproof paper
Printing Process: Offset Printing, Braille

Oitava Colina is a micro-brewery from a Lisbon neighbourhood called Graça.

I was tasked to develop a brand that reflects their origins. After that, I teamed up with the Portuguese illustrator and street-artist Gonçalo Mar to create all the packaging materials.

In their own words:
"To claim Lisbon as the City of Seven Hills, the same nickname given to Rome, Frei Nicolau de Oliveira ignored the Graça Hill, which was the eight hill of Lisbon.

This eight hill, where our Brewery Oitava Colina was born, is the place we get the inspiration to develop and produce our beers.

Through odd tales of characters that live in the hill side, we’ll show you that, like them, our beers have personality! Now we can put the question out... Who is your beer?"

This question (and brand's signature) is answered on the labels, which tell the story of each character and explains its relation to that particular style of beer. This storytelling is present all brand materials.
