The Scarab

Designer: Matteo Giuseppe Pani
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Onassis Cultural Centre of Athens
Location: Athens, Greece
Packaging Contents: A scarab
Packaging Materials: Paper and cardboard

In late 2014, The Onassis Cultural Centre, a design contemporary museum in Athens, has commissioned me and other prominent artists/designer to create a work of art. I have been contacted by Double Decker (an English curating agency) who has sent me the media I would have had to use to create the work. I decided to cut by hand 45 layers of the book they sent me, to create a Scarab. The scarab is a antique religious symbol in the Egyptian and Mediterranean culture. It is a symbol of regeneration and creation. I have dedicated this positive symbol to Greece, which is still facing a financial crisis.

Saks-Books

Designer: Yuta Takahashi
Photographer: Yuta Takahashi
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: SAKS-BOOKS
Location: Japan

We conducted the book design of Johannes Kühl and Johannes Greiner's "Anthroposophische Gesellschaft und Freie Hochschule für Geisteswissenschaft" (SAKS-BOOKS). This book discusses the relationship between individuals and society from various perspectives, and works to clarify both the society and the school as well as their relationship.

We aimed to make a book design so that the book itself would function as an interior object so that it would have a function even after the reader buys the book.

The cover design clearly depicts the book's theme with key visuals. Presenting the content of thought on a white background is uniform throughout this series. The artistic touch of paying attention to details can be seen from the arrangement of each letter to the minute gimmicks.

This book has a minimal and elegant beauty, and quietly finds its place in the reader's life. Receiving stimulation from art, interior design, and lifestyle, a modern book design was reconstructed.

Shameless Self Promotion & Creative CV (Concept)

Designer: Liza Pedersen
Project Type: Concept
Location: Karlstad, Sweden
Packaging Contents: Self promotion packaging, CV, Cover letter
Packaging Materials: Paper

As a young, ambitious and creative designer who are at the beginning of my career, I want to show the artistic, creative and passionate side of my creative soul. I wanted to create a personal packaging project that shows who I am as a designer, but also to promote myself and be remembered when I'm looking for my dream job. So rather than just sending a cover letter and my resume, I created a handmade, shameless self promotion packaging & creative CV. The package includes a printed portfolio of my current work, a personal letter, contact details and also a small gift to (hopefully) seal the deal.

Aside from showcasing my work in a unique and innovative way by highlighting my skills as a packaging designer, I wanted to incorporate my personal interest with graphic design so my potential future employer gets to know me. My main goal was to show how I work as a designer and my approach in this business, showing that I am consistent, dedicated and love craftsmanship when working with projects.

8/1/12 Report - Tropical Storm Forming & Book Treasures

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of treasurebeachesreport.blogspot.com.

The tropics are heating up.   There is now a 60% chance that this disturbance in the Atlantic will turn into a cyclone in the next 48 hours.   It is now well east of the southern windward islands, so it will be a while before we feel the effects, if we ever do.  It is something to watch though.

Entierro

Designed by Bili Cardona, Spain.

This book is a reinterpretation of a story by Edgar Allan Poe, is based on the concept of claustrophobia and catalepsy, for it has developed a book to convey the feeling of being trapped, making finding the missing pages of reading between the sheets black and encased in wood textures as if it were a person buried. As the funeral ornament with a ribbon bearing the title of the book and the making of a box containing the book to keep a black block and closed with a ribbon that represents the old way of burying, lowering the coffin with ropes.

In addition to the music, the set need to include liner notes by 30 leading writers and a treasury or rarely-seen jazz photographs.

Paint Pens (Student Work)

Designed by Evan Farrell, a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design(SCAD) studying Graphic Design, United States.

Create packaging for a small product of your choosing. I packaged paint pens concealed in an inconspicuous book. I introduced the paint pens as weapons because in many ways a "weapon" can act as a metaphor for an artists tool of choice. The paint pens are "weapons" for artists, not necessarily for physical destruction, but as tools of ones self expression. My book has a clear vacuum foamed piece of plastic that securely holds each paint pen. This feature displays paint pens and a piece of graffiti art behind the products.

Hafele Kitchen Report

Designed by Studio Verse, Australia.

This corporate document for Hafele Hardware combines a gatefold cover and a back cover that wraps around to envelope the document. Forme-cutting the squares on the umlaut in their logo as well as the locations of their head-offices in Australia creates a seemingly random pattern on the cover which when opened reveals the map and logo. The wrap from the back cover with the logo can then be used as a bookmark too.

Nice Agency

Designed by Socio Design, United Kingdom.

Nice is a newly formed agency that designs and develops enterprise Rich Internet applications. The two founders wanted to take their depth of knowledge and experience in all things digital and express this via a new cutting edge brand.

Socio's challenge was to position a tech-based agency offering complex end~to-and IT solutions as a creative-driven company in equal measure. Socio started by re-positioning the company using development of logos, logo applications, stationery and leave-behinds. We then introduced a tone of voice - one that is conversational and accessible - which would strengthen their proposition as thought-leading experts in their field.

Nice needed a brand that would support their expansion into niche areas of technology, offering a larger portfolio of services and one that would invite wider appeal from a new client base.
