Colloca Estate Wine Label

Creative Agency: the Labelmaker
Designer: Jordan Jelev
Client: Colloca Estate, USA
Calligraphy: the Fontmaker
Photo: Jordan Jelev
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Colloca Estate, USA
Location: Fair Haven, New York, USA
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Materials: Glass bottle, paper, hot foil, transparent varnish, screw cap, cork

Colloca Estate wine label – where Calligraphy is everything

Colloca Estate wine label is one of those labels where Calligraphy is almost everything. Started with simple writings this brand new hand-lettered Colloca logo has never seen a pencil or sheet of paper. Like many other works of ours, it was born on a Wacom Cintiq digital tablet which means that it is 100% digital. We did our best to refine every detail and make every curve as smooth as possible. Positioned in large size at the center of the label it makes the whole bottle stand out among almost all other wines on the shelf. The logo is overprinted with raised transparent varnish against white smooth background which emphasizes elegantly its presence.

The front label is created in two parts. At the bottom one we tell a short story about each wine showing a photo of the real grape variety in the center of the text. Of course we have elegant and calm gold hot foil to make the whole picture shine.

Colloca Estate "We were thrilled to be recognized by receiving the Double Gold Packaging Award for our 2013 Riesling at the 2015 Fingerlakes International Wine Competition." The award, sponsored by Waterloo Container, assembled a team of judges by Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing Togo DeBellis, of Waterloo Container, that included marketing professionals, packaging manufacturers and Waterloo Container employees.

Judging was based on innovation and package design, including container, label, closure and shelf impact. The award was given to two wineries in seven of the competition categories: Merlot, Riesling, Cabernet, Ice Wine, Cab Franc, Fruit Wine and Chardonnay. Over 3700 Wines were in the competition."

Trip View Bowl

Designed by Trip View Bowl, Taiwan.

Trip View Bowl compresses the view of a specific Taiwanese landscape in a 12cm-in-diameter blue and white porcelain bowl. The three-dimensional panorama map is amazingly painted inside the bowl. Rotating the bowl will virtually take you into the sky looking down at this landscape. All famous sights and stores are also labeled in this interesting and practical souvenir so tourists could take all wonderful memories of the tour home.

Trip View Bowl displays a kind of delicacy unreachable by printed patterns or hand-drawing. You'd absolutely agree it is a piece of delicate work of art, if and even if observing it with a magnifying glass! This artwork also represents 100% Taiwan-made identity, from its creativity to the firing process, and from the bowl itself to its packaging.

In order to adhere to environmental protection, we used medium density fiberboard as packaging materials. The open design allows consumers to see, touch, and the most important thing is to protect the bowl well. The packaging can even protect a fall from five meters as it is designed to self-crumble to save the bowl from breaking.

A magnifying glass is also supplied together with the packaging so that the details can be made available to everyone. We spent six months testing, fix, find the right process, product or even months to complete on the warehouse and other packaging predicament, finally completed in accordance with the objectives we set a new packaging, and reached the following requirements:

MLK

Designed by Depot WPF Branding Agency, Russia.

Challenge: To differentiate the product on the store shelf and to distinguish it from the products of by the big dairy producers.

Idea: “We understood that the identity of MLK © brand has to be different from the big mega-producers. As for the illustrations, we used natural farming patterns – a family farm, where the products are produced in a traditional way. Illustrations are hand-made (with a pencil) which enables to stress the hand-made production process. In addition, a pencil technique makes the image “soft” – and is overall most suitable tool for solving this task”, as comments the Creative Director of Depot WPF and the Author of the creative idea Alexey Fadeev.

MLK © is a lifestyle, a way of thinking and way of eating of the 21st century. It is truly the whole world of innovations. The development strategy stipulates the launch of a huge quantity of products, beginning with a milk line. I’m sure that Milk is a bomb which is going to make us glad and curious time and again!», as comments one of the creators of the Project, President of the Branding Agency Depot WPF, Co-founder of Russian Association of branding companies Alexey Andreev.

Realizations: In order to create the concept the design team went to the real farm in order to find the possible visual identity elements for the future brand.

The brand visual identity consists of black and white graphic patterns which were taken from the real environment of the small milk farm. The patterns of the real farm were used in order to reflect the naturalness of the dairy production and the products.

Result: One can name following achievements, such as MLK © is the winner of Epica Awards 2010, MLK © entered the Top-10 of the Package of the Future Contest held in the Framework of Project 2020: The Consumer Experience (PACK EXPO International 2010 (McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois, USA) in October, 2010.

Camilla Stephens is passionate about pies. She makes really yummy hand-made pies with high-quality ingredients. Uncommon pies, in fact. We loved her pies too and saw the opportunity to open up a market appealing less to your hungry man in a van and more to a discerning female audience. Fresh & Easy Kids Cereals

P&W WINS PENTA AWARD FOR FRESH & EASY KIDS CEREALS

International Design Consultancy P&W has enjoyed further success in the Penta Awards this year. The consultancy’s range of Kids cereals for Tesco’s fast-growing US chain Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market has won a bronze Penta award, presented at the official Penta awards ceremony at the Shanghai EXPO 2010. The three-strong range, Cookie Bites, Cocoa Sharks and Apple & Cinnamon Smiles, is designed to achieve cut-through in a category replete with bright colors, artificial flavors and cartoon characters, including well-known licenses such as The Flintstones, and TV "stars" such as Count Chocula.

The Fresh & Easy products are free of artificial colorings and flavors and contain less sugar than many of the mainstream brands, but we wanted to promote these core Fresh and Easy values with a sense of fun. We transformed the boxes into individual characters, each one about to guzzle back a bowl of their favorite cereal. Their bold, graphic style is unique to the market and stands apart from the more visually cluttered branded competitors. To increase engagement and repeat purchase, and imbue the packs with Fresh & Easy’s personality, we also created games, such as mazes and fun word-finders, to feature on back of pack.

P&W has a long-standing relationship with Fresh & Easy, having been key design partner since launch, and designed over a thousand SKUs.

“We are very proud of the new Fresh & Easy Kids’ cereals range. There is so much choice within breakfast cereals in the USA, that it can be fairly bewildering for parents who just want to give their children a nutritious start to the day. Our work with Fresh & Easy has been all about helping US consumers to choose top-quality products. To come up with a set of designs that not only stand out at the fixture but also use the whole of the pack to add a real sense of fun to compete with the brands, is testament to the insight and ability of our design team.”

    Pour TE

    Designed by Identity Works, Sweden.
Message in a bottle that idea is probably as old as the bottle itself . Centuries of bottles thrown into rivers , lakes and seas . Bottles containing cry for help , love and attention - sadly - rarely reached anyone at all , and especially to its intended recipients.

In 2010 , however, the communication channel message in a bottle a new life thanks to pour tea , an iced tea brewed in Sweden with organic and Fairtrade ingredients from Johan & Nystrom , one of Sweden's most renowned coffee roasters .

The concept is based on an idea about the message in a bottle with user- generated messages on the surface of the bottle . With an easy income has anyone a chance to express their innermost thoughts , declaring his love or just whine a little over a bottle of iced tea . The idea lives on in www.pourte.se , and lays the foundation for an integrated product identity concept .

    Wild Bag

Designed by identis GmbH, Germany. It won the Best of Other Markets Category. For more winners please visit the Pentawards 2010.

Bags for living in the urban jungle… a series of 15 animal designs from 5 continents. Bison, tortoise, polar bear, elk, serpent, llama, kangaroo, etc… 3 bag formats… And a packaging ever so rational and well thought out — made simply out of corrugated cardboard, with cuts on the front that resemble the bars of a cage. A bag box that shows and protects the product at once. Moreover, it is perfectly ecological because the cardboard is completely recyclable, with very little printing (and therefore ink). And for the icing on the cake, these solid boxes can be reused as practical storage boxes as they can show and protect their contents.

    Lascala

Designed by Eduardo del Fraile, Spain. This wine packaging won the best of the beverages category. For more winners please visit the Pentawards 2010.

Introducing Spanish wines to the Chinese market is no easy task. French wines, which are in the majority at present, opted for the path of tradition, by keeping their own identity and authenticity. Eduardo del Fraile opted for the path of culture and of blending Spanish and Chinese traditions.
Lascala, as the range is known, is the word used in China to refer to the theatre. On the bottles, Asian faces made up in white symbolise China, a lock of curly hair on the brow, symbolises Spain. Rosé wine (La Peineta – The Comb) shows a Spanish traditional diadem in the hair of a Chinese woman. White wine (El Abanico – The fan) mixes this typically Spanish (but also Asian) accessory in a very creative manner. On the red wine (La Bailaora de Flamenco – The Flamenco Dancer) the silhouette of the woman dancing stands out in black on a face made up in white. The typography also mixes Eastern and Western traditions, as the Western alphabet is treated vertically as are Chinese signs.
Finally, the bottles are covered with a tissue paper printed with red dots in reference to Flamenco dresses and shoes: A mix of the ying and the yang for the hardness of glass and the lightness of tissue paper.

    HOYU3210

Best of the Show – Diamond Pentaward 2010

This astonishing and creative HOYU3210 bottles are the work of designers from ADK, a major Japanese communication agency created in 1956, now present everywhere in the world, and a member of the WPP group.

HOYU3210 – countdown to beauty – is a range of products of HOYU, a company specialising in hair and hairdressing products. Created in 1905, HOYU has never ceased to innovate and to offer Japanese customers, who are among the most demanding in the world, exceptional products… in exceptional packaging.

3210 refers to a countdown to indicate what the product has to offer consumers, in a few seconds, even with the stress of the last finishing touches before going out, the ideal solution for a really perfect hairstyle.
The distinctly original and ideally ergonomic shape of the bottles leaves the usual codes behind to stand out among all its competitors. The designer confesses that he did not use a computer to create these ever so particular forms. His tools were his hands, the earth to be moulded, the file and sandpaper.

To be sure, the computer did play its role when the design went into production, but the initial form, as can be appreciated at first glance, owes its fundamental aestheticism to the artist’s hand, to his pure creative emotion.
The chosen colours, black and white, and transparency, reinforce the simplicity and the purity of the packaging.

It is odds on that these bottles will not wind up being recycled, but will be kept as decorative objects in bath rooms and will soon find their way to exhibitions and museums devoted to design.

In addition to the Diamond Pentaward trophy, ADK received the EskoArtwork Suite 10 software, worth €5,000, one of the most sophisticated design and display programmes.
